Reviews
From The Horn Book, Inc.
When a boy asks his mother what the seashore is like, she responds with a poetically descriptive series of impressions of the beach from dawn until dusk. Minor's lovely paintings heighten the serene nature of the book, which reads almost like a guide meditation. A useful and relaxing story for bedtime or any time.
From Debra Briatico Children's Literature
In this beautiful story, a boy from the mountains asks his mother to describe what the seashore looks like. In order to achieve this task, the author presents a descriptive poem that takes the reader on an imaginary sensory adventure. Zolotow effectively describes the colors, sounds, and sights of the seashore including watching the sun break through the morning mist, picking up shells at the water's edge, and listening to the sounds of the wind and waves. Detailed illustrations perfectly depict the activities enjoyed during a visit to the beach.
